<By then we were pretty tired , so gave up around 10.30 p.m.?>

Just tired?

Great write-up, not in the least boring. Glad to hear you enjoyed the Palace. We spent many hours there during the last Poperinge Hop Festival and have managed to secure accomodations there for the upcoming one in September.

It seems we had a better reception at Posterie during that same visit. We stayed in Ieper so made a couple of trips to Posterie. On the second, the hostess ended up sitting with us and talking for a while. I believe it was her father who joined later and then walked out with us down the alley talking continuously.

Paters Vaetje is my favorite nightcap spot in Antwerp. I invariably order a Dulle Teve or so. We've been known to stumble out at 4:00 AM never intending to stay that late.

Heartily agree about the Courage Imperial. We really need to keep this a secret. Too bad Chuck published it in his All About Beer article.
