Re: Antwerp report part one: Thurs & Fri, incl Waagstuk fest

>> There were far too many bottles opened which we had not bought at t Waagstuk. I thought that this was very rude and inconsiderate, and that people should have been a bit more thoughtful. We do not want to abuse the wonderful hospitality of people like Hans, who is a thoroughly decent bloke, and we definitely want to return. Now, we checked with Hans the next day, and he says he was ok about it, but I felt embarrassed when bottle after bottle of beer was opened that we hadnt purchased from Hans. Please, everyone, can we sort this out next time and ensure that when we are festing in Belgian bars (or British ones, for that matter wed have been kicked out if this had happened here) we do NOT have a repeat performance. Thank you, end of rant. <<

Whilst I was not at t'Waagstuk and don't know who it was (and don't want to know) who brought their own beer, I just want to back up Jeremy 100% here. Bringing your own beer into a pub and drinking it is very very fucking rude and shows a complete lack of respect for the owner of the pub, especially a fantastic pub like t'Waagstuk. If you went to a top class restaurant, would you bring your own food ?? If you went to the Opera, would you bring your mate along and get him to sing on stage ?? So why the hell do some of you think it is acceptable to bring a shitload of your own beer into a pub, which depends on selling its own beer, and then start drinking it ??

Can we put as top to this disrespectful and to be honest, bloody arrogant act for any future gatherings ?? I'm not saying don't bring beer to EXCHANGE with each other at future get togethers ... this is a great part of meeting up. But at least have the common decency and respect to open and drink that beer somewhere else other than a pub.

Mark.
