Re: Antwerp report part one: Thurs & Fri, incl Waagstuk fest

Like Mark I was not there but agree entirely. I've always thought it was neat to sneak in a bottle or two if somebody has something really rare, but that would seem completely moot at a tasting where 30 year old Rodenbach can be had. The first NYC fest was cool, Bill smuggled in an 87 Goudenband and a beer from Johan. It added a special surprise quality while not totally disregarding that we were in a place that stays open by selling beer. Same with the Country Inn thing, Bill brought a bottle or two and shared them with the bartender and a few of us. It was really no problem - in fact it was very nice. I thought we started really pushing that at the Gingerman though, partially because of me. I brought one very rare vintage bottle, which I thought was neat. BrianB delivered a case of 3P, one bottle was opened by general request. But it seemed that every other beer I tried was not bought from the Gingerman. That seemed over the top, and I feel bad for my contribution to that situation. But that being said - I'm really glad the beer from the 30's was popped!

Bringing beer is really fun, but I think if everyone wants to do it then a bar event is inappropriate. Babbler events that happen elsewhere - like at the Baltimore B&B or Priscillas place last November - are really awesome and something worth doing. But you need to pick your venue. Maybe we should specifically cover this preceeding future events that occur in a bar.
