My apologies.

With your enthusiasm for beer, I'm half surprised you didn't name him "Mout". (That IS the Flemish word for 'malt', isn't it?)

And, thanks, Joris, for identifying the scent of oxidation. I'd never had a beer so oxidized before that one, and I thought it was some kind of strange maltiness. Now I know better. Ahh...adult education is a wonderful thing.
