Re: Leuven, Hasselt, Liege: travel help request

Liège has got my favourite Belgian Pub, Aux Olivettes, although it may not suit you Jeremy, as I know that you prefer pubs with large beer lists; this is one with a small list but it is incredibly atmospheric, because of the "cuts-you-like-a-knife" singing à la Edith Piev et Jacques Brel that takes place there.

There is now a fourth Vaudrée in Liège, see the on-line update to Tim's Guide.

The following are my travel notes to get to the three Vaudrées that are not in the city centre like Vaudrée II.

Getting to the Vaudrées outside Liège City Centre

The Web site that covers buses in Wallonia is: http://www.tec-wl.be

From this, there are links to sites such as the one that covers Liège: http://www.tec-liege-verviers.be

Of interest on this is the index of timetables: http://www.tec-liege-verviers.be/tec2/horaires/index.html

From this it can be seen that bus numbers 70, 73, "70 barré" (70 with a diagonal line through) bus and the "74 barré" bus, go to Rocourt, and bus maps show that they go along Vaudrée III's street, Chaussée de Tongres, i.e. see the hyperlinks: Ligne 70 - St Lambert - Rocourt - Liers - Slins , Ligne 70 barré - St Lambert - Rocourt , Ligne 73 - St Lambert - Rocourt - Liers - Slins - Glons , and Ligne 74 barré - St Lambert - Rocourt - Wihogne - Paifve

These Rocourt buses all go from the Place St.-Lambert terminal, near the Prince-Bishops' Palace.

Note also the hyperlink: Lignes 26 et 26 barré - Théâtre - Angleur - Streupas, Belle-Ile, Chênée

If you click on this, it can be seen that bus numbers 26 and "26 barré" go from the Liège Théâtre bus terminal to Angleur. If you look at the actual route map that this link leads to, it can be seen that there is a stop on rue du Fourchufossé. Both Vaudrée and Le Petit Vaudrée are on the corner of this street. For me, using this bus is preferable to going by train from Guillemins, as given in Tim Webb, as Guillemins is not in the city centre and at night there is quite a wait between each one, as my Beer hunters found on returning on a Thalys trip there from Aachen; they had to get a cab.

The 26s go from the Théâtre terminal round the corner from the Opera House (Théâtre), in Place de la République-Française, diagonally opposite the entrance to the Ibis Hotel; they go from the last bus shelter, opposite the "INNO" department store.

The above is from my downloadable guide to Liège, which I think you have the password for.

There is an equivalent Web site that covers buses and trams in Flanders: www.delijn.be

This also has a useful sub-Web site for de Kusttram, the coastal tram: www.dekusttram.be
