I'm sorry but I'm the bearer of sad news.

Your story of Patrick's dog exactly identifies it as "Reglisse".

Reglisse was a marvellous dog with a big black hairy head & was forever eating.

About 4 years ago Reglisse wandered away from the bar & despite all the locals searching, he was lost presumed dead.

There you would think the story would end....But no.

Over six months later one of Patrick's friends identified the dog at a dog pound & the two were reunited again although Reglisse was much thinner.

I'm sorry to say that since that time the dog has gone to the great bar in the sky & no longer frequents the bar.

BTW Welcome to the BBB.
