My girlfriend had a similarly stormy departure from Barcelona a couple years ago. For about 45 minutes the plane bounced through a severe storm convincing everyone that it was time to make peace with their chosen Creator. No lightning though. I was just in Chicago and flew in last Thursday during the great windstorms. My flight actually departed and landed on time, albeit we landed on one wheel. It was a very bouncy approach into O'Hare. Other people going to the same meeting were delayed either hours or an entire day. I still do trust the pilots, but not anyone else next connected to the airlines.
