Luxembourg, Namur & Liege province recs for Aaron

Aaron, thanks for your note down the board. Here are a few recs for Luxembourg, Namur and Liege provinces for your forthcoming stay in Malmedy:

Suxy - Stop: you really must not miss this one. Quirky beyond belief, it even has a bowling alley, lots of stuffed animals, unbelievable stuff.

Yes, Libramont: good selection of around 200 beers.

Liege: lots of good ones including the four Vaudrees, but the real gem in town is Les Olivettes, not for its beer but for its unbelievable atmosphere. Check the archives here and see details in Tim Webb. Watch the restrictive opening hours, though.

Rochehaut: this town is extremely well situated overlooking the Semois valley (down near Orval) and has a good bar - Fermette - with over 40 beers (not bad for the area). The best bit is the terrace and the views from just round the corner. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

Bouillon - Vielle Ardennes: excellent bar right opposite Brasserie de Bouillon (in the shop called Marche de Natalie, with lots of great beer to buy)

La Roche: two good bars, both of Tim W's recs are worth checking out.

Durbuy: definitely visit the Ferme au Chene to sample Dany's 'other' beer.

Achouffe: of course this is always worth a visit, decent food at the back too.

Bohan sur Semois: not far from Rochehaut but in Namur province: Tim W's description sums it up, excellent place.

Lustin - Musee des Bieres Belge: not far from Namur and worth a visit though its a bit of an odd place.

Hastiere Lavaux - Pichet du Pere Marlet: another excellent place, highly recommended.

Membre - Vielle Pompe - one of the gems that is well well worth visiting, lovely place, as Tim says, its a 'real beauty'.

Malmedy - I've been in the Scotch but was so impressed I can't recall anything about it - sorry. I was there and in the Webb cafe in Stavelot - its equally lacking, especially as the beer list was hammered between Tim's current edition and the previous one.

Aaron, hope this gives you an idea of some of the highlights - none are particularly far from where you are staying & I would say all are worth a visit, esp if you have a designated driver. If you want any more info on anything please let me know, and nearer the time maybe you can email me and we can arrange to meet in Teuven if that is convenient for you.

Thanks also for the offer of some beers, lets work that out in due course too.

Cheers

Jeremy
