Of places that also have some Speciality Beers, I have found De Herk, Reyndersstraat 33, tel 03 232 21 57 to be above average, and also the nearby De Groote Witte Arend, Reyndersstraat 18, tel 03 226 31 90, http://www.degrootewittearend.com . These are both near the non-beer places: the excellent, Michelin-starred ‘t Fornuis, Reyndersstraat 24, tel 03 233 62 70; and De Vagant, Reyndersstraat 25, tel 03 233 15 38, http://www.devagant.be , this having gin-cuisine (its associated bar does have soen good beers as well as hundreds of Jenevers,

The food is also above average in the brew pub, Huisbrouwerij 't Pakhuis, Vlaamse Kaai 76, tel 03 238 12 40, http://www.huisbrouwerijpakhuis.be

The best of the beer places for food, unquestionably for me is one near the Oud Arsenaal, the Grand Café Horta, Hopland 2, tel 03 232 28 15, http://www.grandcafehorta.be

Waagstuk, despite being recommended to me for its food, I have tried it three times and been immensely disappointed and the BDB place was not as good as I expected overall on my one visit.

I cover all these places and many more and many of Joris's in my downloadable guide to Antwerp, which is available from http://www.whitebeertravels.com/downloads

The following place is one I have not tried, the notes on it being from a document prepared by Podge, but I will be checking it out next week

't Karveel. Vlaamse Kaai 11 tel 03 237 36 23, http://www.tkarveel.be . A newcomer to the Antwerp scene. A strange experimental bar from the John Martins group. Has 10 beers on draught. The interior is styled as a giant galleon with all the expected sailing accoutrements but with the addition of firing cannon and gun emplacements on the ships deck. Food available, including tapas. FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY Open until late
