Re: Best drinking town in Belgium

Hi guys,

I salute you and fully agree that Gent is the best drinking and 'living' place of Belgium. I was and lived there for about 15 years before i moved to exciting Woking!!!

This town is a perfect combination of medieval beauty and student action!! Food and drinks in general are perfect. Saturday evenings are so busy that it is difficult to get in somewhere.

Most of the good pubs are already mentioned by you guys. A few things I want to add however are...

go to PAtershol, a renovated area close to the city center full of restaurants and cosy pubs. Beer lists are reasonably well. I remember a few years ago, I went for a perfect grilled steak in Het Corduwanierke combined with the real Liefmans gouden band in 25cl bottles (5%abv).

Enjoy a good beer and an excellent meal in the lounge of the NTG (Theatre) on St Baafs square. In summertime, you can sit on the outside terrace and enjoy the fabulous views.

Don't forget the quirky places like Tap and Tepel, Het Kanon (close to friday market) en Het Galgenhuisje. When you come out of the 'Dreupelkot' away from the waterside and go immediately left you end up in de 'Gepoeierde ezel' (powdered donkey). An absolute fabulous place for a good laugh, drink and dance. When you are up to serious volume drinking, you better go (During the week) to the OVerpoortstraat where you find about 30 student pubs....

You can still find me in one of these places on a very frequent base when I dropped off my wife for shopping.

Fabulous place for visiting and living.

Bart 'middle name Gent' V
