Re: Belga Queen, Brussels

Sorry for the late reaction, but I've been away skiing last week.

Belga Queen is rather controversial. It arrived on Brussels' restaurant scene with quite a bang, it is grandiose and expensive, hyped, so quite naturally a counter-current will emerge of people who love to hate it.

I've dined there twice, and would recommend it to visitors, keeping in mind you go there for the entire experience and surroundings, not just for the food. I've never had issues with the food we had, which was (depending on the course; 8 in total) good to excellent on both occasions. I like the interior and think they did a great renovation job. The toilets on their own are worth the visit.

Last time I went was about two years ago. Expect to overpay slightly for the food when ordering off the menu. I've personally found the "degustation menu with beer" a good value: 4 courses, accompanied with "matching beers" for around 45 euro. Don't expect the variety and size of the matching beers at De Heeren though: the samplers are rather small and the beers rather mainstream.

All in all a great experience, but expect to meet people who'll state the contrary.

Cheers!

p.s.: I forgot to give you the Gatz book at ZBF, didn't I?
