Sour Patch Triple!
Ok,

My friend LOVES Soup Patch kids candy, and he asked me if I could make a beer with them for him. So I decided to make a triple and sub. the candi sugar for Sour Patch Kids. Any thoughts on how this will turn out?

This is a 3 gallon batch.

Malt:

2lbs Light LME (Liquid Malt Extract)

2lbs Pilsner Malt

1lb Belgium Biscuit Malt

1lb Belgium Aromatic

1.25lb Sourpatch Kids (20oz)

Hops:

.75oz Czech Saaz @ 60min.

1oz East Kent Goldings @ 30min.

.25 Czech Saaz @ 15min.

1oz East Kent Goldings (Dry Hopping)

Whitelabs Trappist Ale Yeast

Re: Sour Patch Triple!
This brings to mind a story. At the last SoB Tomme Arthor told us of how he did an experiment with some home brew buddies in the days before he was a pro. They wanted to see if they could make a watermelon beer. How might this be accomplished? He answered "we added watermelon jolly ranchers..." then there was a pause and he followed up with "...dont ever do that!"

The Jolly Rancher Lambic was in BYO magazine several issues back as well - Chris Colby (the editor) had made it.

Was he happy about it? Tomme pretty much racked it up to a learning experience of what not to do!

Evidently he liked it.

Here's a link to the recipe: http://www.byo.com/recipe/1330.html

And here's a conversation from another board about it:

QUOTE:

"Anybody ever make that Jolly Rancher Apple Lambic? Can't say that I've had a good lambic that represented the style, but the recipe sounded interesting. I think it's from byo."

"I've made it a few times. Then again, it's my recipe. I also made a Jolly Rancher Watermelon lambic this last year. If you're looking for a good representation of the traditional style, this is not it. But, it's interesting.

Chris Colby"
