Any interest in swapless chats?
Just hung for a bit with N8 and JoeF in the chatroom. Karmelite tasting. Chats are great when you are all sampling the same beer, but they can work well without that factor too. If I popped next Tuesday, say 8 EST, would I be alone? Uhoh, would that make it a singles chatroom????

Great idea, Steve. I'll be there. Still working on these two 750's. :)

Wonderful stuff..

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Great idea Steve,

Do a tasting of a commercial example? Or just chat? What era of vinyl will be spinning?

Cheers,

Sean

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Sean, I think tasting a commercial example is a great idea. Era? Why 70s of course! I'll have to wing the exact selection though! Not sure there is time to suggest a specific beer for this Tuesday, but I think your idea is something we can strive for. Any suggestions?

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
I suppose we would need to figure what beers are obtainable across the country.

Is everyone able to get a triple called Goliath?

That's one I would like to do a tasting with.

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Steve,

So many to choice from...

Maybe look at commercial examples of styles from Belgium?

My suggestions would be:

Rochefort 8/10

Westmalle Tripel

On the lighter side:

Petrus Pale Ale

Duchesse De Bourgogne

De Dolle Oerbier Special Reserva 2004

't Smisje Calva Reserva

What do you think? Trying to think of beers that are special, that folks who what to join in can get and with the weather hitting 102 today in Sonoma, drinkable… Thoughts?

Cheers,

Sean

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Sadly N8,

I have not seen the Goliath. Being that I love a good tripel, I'd love to try it...

That is what is going to be hard with this, commercial examples that we can all get.

Cheers,

Sean

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Sean, I have these two on hand:

De Dolle Oerbier Special Reserva 2004

't Smisje Calva Reserva

I'm traveling this weekend and Monday nights I teach. I have a shop about 50 minutes from me where I can get most anything, but I don't think getting there before Tuesday is possible.

Another thing, maybe we could plan to get a few people together and sample different beers from the same style. Then the following Tuesday do the same beers but everyone has a different one from the time before. So for example I have Westmalle triple, N8 has St Bernardus and you have Golden Monkey. Then the next week I have GM, you have StB and N8 has Westmalle. Then compare the transcript of both nights.

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
I'd love to be in on a chat about who is brewing what etc... but as for commercial beers, I'm out for the next month minimum in that case... I'd have to make a 4 hour round trip to get anything you guys are talking about using and it would depend on what the store in Tennessee has on hand... Alabama has 2 laws that screw me on good beer... 6% ABV max and 16 oz. bottle size max...

If I can find time to get up that way, I'll pick up as much as I can afford in one go (usually drop $100-150 when I get there)

later,

mikey

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
I do have a bottle of De Dolle Oerbier Special Reserva 2004 on hand. I might crack it Tuesday, but I wouldn't worry too much about everyone drinking the same thing. I have pretty good notes on most of the beers that are listed above. I also have a bottle of Jolly Pumpkin Luciernaga Grand Reserve that is calling my name, hmmm..... We'll see.

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Ryan, I agree with you. Last Tuesday I popped in on N8 and JoeF who where both doing Karmelite triple. I did not have one but there was still good stuff to talk about.

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
You havea good point Steve. The idea of trying different beers and sharing the tasting is a good idea. Maybe to two different brews, see what folks have for one, and then an open mic beer.

Mykel, I suggest you move. When I was in Utah, the 4% beer and only 1 oz of hard booze in a cocktail was very sad... What I had in the car would have gotten me arested on the road, not including when we traveled on Indian Reservations... I see why you brew!

I have to say, after the candi swap, I've been thristy to try others beers and share ideas as we taste. Was a great time. Great idea Steve (and N8)...

Cheers,

Sean

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Hey Ryan, I popped in at 8 EST (that the time I mentioned in the parent post here), just Joe was there. We actually had a great chat resulting in some swap plans that I am really looking forward to! But he had to cut out at 8:15 and I had things to do - a beer to bottle actually. I see your post was made at 9:44 EST (actually the server time seems to be off 20 minutes or so), so I guess you missed us by an hour!

Were there more people there? What time did everyone show up?

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
I just took a look at the log file, I see a few people did get there. Sorry I missed you Sean, Chet, Ryan and artusory. BTW artusory, who are you? Perusing the chat you seem like a good guy to have around!

Anyway, the log starts at 8:53PM, looks like 8 might be a bit early for the west coast crowd. I missed Sean by only 13 minutes! I'll be arriving back home from vacation next Tuesday early evening I hope (driving from Ohio to NJ). I'll pop in a bit later next week if I'm home in time!

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Steve, I must have just missed you - I popped in right around that 8:15 time, saw no one there, and left. Checked back a few later, and Sean was in, then Ryan showed not long after that.

Nice chat guys...although I woke up in the middle of the night with some serious acid burn - the "funk farm" at work, I believe!

I got to stop by for a quick 5 minutes. Couldn't stay, but it seems that there was a good turn out over all.

Hope to stick around longer next week.

Steve! I'm a major Gomer, brother. It was a Rodenbach Grand Cru - not, repeat not - an Alexander Rodenbach. I know, I know - the wind just let out of your sail and for that I'm truly sorry man, but that's what I get for PUI.

Re: Any interest in swapless chats?
Hey all,

I got on about 5:17 (PST) do to traffic and chet came on a few after I did. Was a nice tuesday, had a Calva Reserva and chat with Chet and Ryan. I did blink and was kicked off, then came back. Might explain the 13 minutes. Was a good hour and a half... Chet had a shot of his bug slury. I see that he made it through the night!

Good idea. I'd be up for another.

Cheers,

Sean

Caught up in brewing my Dubbel and forgot (the homebrews I had while brewing didn't help LOL)... Let's shoot for next... Nope... my Brew Club meets next Tuesday, and we are discussing a group beer order with a bunch of Belgian beers on the list... I may have some good stuff to taste before too long after all!!!

I'll try to be there for the 18th if anyone is game

later,
