Partial Mash...do I need to adjust PH?
Bros/Broettes

I will be doing my first partial mash for a 3 gal batch of a BPA . Do I need to adjust for PH as in AG?

- mashing 2 lb Pils, quarter pound white wheat, caramunich, crystal40; 2.50 lb x-lite DME; OG/FG ~1.053/1.012; WLP550; EK Gold and C Saaz @ 60min - 26 IBU

Also, does ferm temp of 70-72 sound right for bal of esters to phenols for this 550 (first time using it)?

Cheers

Re: Partial Mash...do I need to adjust PH?
Don't worry about pH right now. Just worry about brewing beer. Don't get me wrong, pH is important, But in any extract beer it is the pH of the wort you really need to worry about - not so much the pH of your tiny mash. In all grain the pH of your mash is very important - but it makes up 100% of your fermentibles.

There is a really good write up at www.howtobrew.com about water chemistry and pH for both extract and all-grain, if you are really interested.

Re: Partial Mash...do I need to adjust PH?

Thanks MV, I suspected as much.

I like to brew and am learning differet brewing methods but I hate getting burned on overlooked (to me) steps so I just wanted to check with my very knowledgeable bros/broettes here on the forum.

Cheers
