Welcome to the homeBBBrew board!
Like the BBB, the homeBBBrew board is not a club, just a place to talk about making beer. Is there a swap you would like to see happen? If we can find a few others who have something similar then lets do it!

Brett Beer Seminar
For those in the Philly area who may have not heard:

Brettanomyces Beer! -- Tuesday March 6th

Presented by Neva Parker from White Labs at the Iron Hill Brewery in North Wales in conjunction with Keystone Homebrew Supply

Do you enjoy the mysterious and distinctive tastes of Belgian beer? If so, there is a very good chance you are a fan of the effects of the wild yeast affectionately called Brett. This yeast, found in many Belgian Beers, adds a complex character often described as barnyard or horse blanket. Sometimes considered a beer spoiler, either you love Brett or you hate it. For those of you who love it (think Orval Trappist beer and Lambics) you don't want to miss this event. Neva Parker, the Lab Manager for White Labs, will teach us everything she can on how to use Brett to our best advantage in brewing beers.

This seminar will take place on Tuesday March 6th at the Iron Hill Brewery in North Wales at 7:30 PM. The cost will be $8.00 per person and includes Iron Hill's awesome appetizers, Larry's Flanders Red Brett beer (and other Iron Hill beers) and a 45 minute presentation by Neva Parker from White Labs. Please RSVP to Joanne Carilli-Stevenson at Joanne@whitelabs.com by Saturday, March 3rd Limited space is available, the $8.00 fee will be collected at the event.

I'll be there, anyone else?

I saw her give this presentation at the AHA NHC in Baltimore a couple of years ago. Pretty interesting.

Re: Brett Beer Seminar
It was a good time, but any time Larry H is in the house, things are relaxed. The presentation was not real technical, but I think it was a reasonable intro for some people.

One good point was that the place was packed. This is good because it shows the labs that people are interested in wild beers and hopefully they will continue to make the products available.

The talk, the food, beer & coupon for yeast was worth the $8 and the night out. Plus we picked up a couple of bottles at Capone's on the way home.

Re: Brett Beer Seminar
I agree completely Ted. The more interest that can be generated out there the easier this will become for all of us. It's like homebrewing in general. Doing it in 1970 would probably have been really hard with few brewing products to pick from. Lots of people started brewing and now you can get the most esoteric brewing products by just picking up the phone. You want Rosealare to come back full time? Make the seasonal rerelease a sell out!

Re: Brett Beer Seminar
I couldn't believe that so many people would want show up to an event to learn about sour beers. Between spouse and I (we both got yeast coupons) I guess I'll be playing around with WL yeast the next time I brew.

Re: Brett Beer Seminar
Cuda, I went to thebrewingnetwork.com but saw no search feature. Undoubtedly the problem you encountered was that I had to make h t t p illegal in posts. That has obstructed and enormous majority of spammers. This sounds like a neat link though, can you try again to post it but leave off the h t t p? People can still copy and paste the remaining URL into the location bar to get to the page.

It figures... My wife and I both went and neither of us got the coupon. 40 out of 60... I guess we're the unlucky ones. :-)

Re: Brett Beer Seminar
For some reason some spammers are good with just leaving garbage on a message board. I don't get it, no click through value or traffic generation potential, the only value it could have is to get the word "pheromones" or whatever out there. If I could understand what it is they are trying to achieve I might be able to obstruct them too, but sadly I'm just left scratching my head. Fortunately those guys seem to be in the vast minority.
