1st Runnings for Strong Dark with D2
I'm planning to use my bottle of D2 for a strong Dark; something along the lines of a Westy 12.

Is there a general way to calculate the expected gravity of first runnings only? I'm thinking of the following

16-17 lbs 2 row pils

1 lb cane sugar

one bottle D2

1.5 oz hallertauer at 90 min

1 oz saaz at 30 min.

WY3787

I'd like to hit 1.12 for the SG but I'm not sure how to figure what kind of efficiency I will get from a no sparge brew session.

Sounds tasty, but it will be much bigger than the 12. While historically it did start at 1.120, it now starts south of 1.100.

Hey Mike

Ok. Does that mean that I should shoot for 5 gallons?

I'd like to try to dig as much complexity out of the sugar as possible so I'm wondering if the first runnings would be the way to go.

Thoughts on that? And on the gravity question?

Ryan, I'd expect about 60% efficiency with first runnings.
