Welcome to the homeBBBrew board!
Like the BBB, the homeBBBrew board is not a club, just a place to talk about making beer. Is there a swap you would like to see happen? If we can find a few others who have something similar then lets do it!

Best starter without DME?
What's the best route to go for a starter without any DME on hand?

I just picked up a bottle each of both the Signature Ale series brews from De Proef and wish to taste both tonight, and also capture the bugs at the bottom of the bottle. But I don't have any DME at the moment, and wont get time to get to the LHBS. Is there something else that would be adequate for growing bugs?

Malta Goya does a fine job as a starter medium. Dilute 1:1 with water and you've got 1.030.

As a bonus, it turns into a really tasty sour beer if you decant and carbonate the starter... I discovered that last time I needed to grow up a bunch of Brett C...
