Welcome to the homeBBBrew board!
Like the BBB, the homeBBBrew board is not a club, just a place to talk about making beer. Is there a swap you would like to see happen? If we can find a few others who have something similar then lets do it!

Return of the Bugfarm
Unsure of whats in the dregs you're pullin'?

Tired of the old lambic blends from WY/WL ?

Well then, time to break out the BUGFARM!!

Batch #2 is in the planning stages. Pure isolates going into batch 2 will be (at a minimum):

Brettanomyces sp. Boon Oude Gueuze

Brettanomyces sp. Giardin 1882 Gueuze

Brettanomyces sp. Drie Fontenien Gueuze

2 Brett. sp. Russian River Beatification

Brettanomyces sp. Cuvee de Tomme '08

Brett ? yeast Ongefilterd (unfiltered)Palm

B. clausenii WL

Pediococcus sp. (slimy) Rodenbach Foederbier

Lactobacillus sp. ??

Saccharomyces fermentati Flor Sherry Yeast

I anticipate inoculating wood chips/cubes in the next couple of weeks, distribution a few weeks after that, so maybe around Halloween? MWA hahahaahahaa!

Perfect for making Frankenbeer! Count me in, Al!

I just had a taste of the original bugfarm batch and it is coming along very nicely... I'm getting lots of brett expressing itself in a very wine-y way. It gives the impression of some of the bretty red wines from the south of France.

Re: Return of the Bugfarm
If at all possible, I'd like to get in on this also.

My bugfarm #1 batch isn't quite ready for tasting yet but it certainly looks like there is "something" going on in there. It did get a late start..pitched around the beginning of March.

I'd love to start another one!

Re: Return of the Bugfarm
So you're not sure whether the yeast from Palm is wild or not? Interesting.... looks almost like both?

Re: Return of the Bugfarm
whoa. might need to chop down a tree for extra chips.......

<<So you're not sure whether the yeast from Palm is wild or not?>> It grows well, but does not ferment too much (slightly) - some kind of oxidative yeast. Its a wild oxidative yeast, as far as I can tell right now. I just grew some up so I'm looking at it again + hopefully know more later on.

Re: Return of the Bugfarm
I would like in, if there are enough cubes. I haven't tried last year's batch yet (alluded to that in another thread as I missed this one, sorry) but looking forward to it.

Hey Al, if you need money to cover the oak cube a/o bug costs, feel free to let me know.

No problems sending chips/cubes along with some sourish homebrews.

<<Hey Al, if you need money to cover the oak cube a/o bug costs, feel free to let me know.>>

That's kind of you, Dave. The single cost of sending cubes last time was cheap, so I don't like to ask for $$ when its 1.50 $ or so........of course I anticipated a few newbies this time around (and that's cool). I was thinking 15 or so would apply..... Perhaps, the first 16 here are in, others send some $$? Let's see how this goes. Its not a problem making bug chips. Thanks again.

When we receive weird vials of slurry in the mail I tell my wife it's Alpaca sperm for the ranch hands and she doesn't ask questions.

I'm in.

Re: Return of the Bugfarm
Al, considering what you are doing is impossible for most of us to recreate, I think of it like buying a more hand-crafted Wyeastesque sort of wild yeast w/ oak cube mixture, only better!

Tripel Beam . . . One of the funniest posts ever! I do have to ask, what does she say when you put said Alpaca sperm into a carboy of beer?!!!

I know I'm on the outside looking in, but IMO folks who'd like a sample of Al's work should provide a mailing address in the form of a return address on a box containing a rare treat from their neck of the woods. Just an opinion.

Steve,

That is actually a good idea. If nothing else, it is just good courtesy to repay what is nothing short of sheer generosity on Al's part. Great idea Steve! Thanks!!!!

I agree with Steve on this one. I'm going to try and dig up Al's address and send him something yummy. Is that sugar swap page still up?
