Another Saison Swap?
Hey, I think it's been about a year since we did a saison swap. Anyone interested in another one soon?

I brewed one a couple weeks ago, should be done by December, but maybe we could shoot for early in the New year?

I'd be interested, Sean. First of the year works for me.

Hey Sean -

Count me in on the saison swap also! I seem to have always had bad timing on these in the past, but Jan '09 should be just fine.

Nice seeing you at the NYCHG thing last month - think I'll be back for the next one too.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
If, and only if, most of the swappers are within my PHL-NYC axis and I can hand deliver the beers, I've got some fantastic AlB blend saisons. I don't have the cash on hand to FedEx beers all over the country.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
I have a Rye Saison fermented with dregs from a Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Blanca and WY Farmhouse. Never participated in a swap, and I only have 22oz bottles. How do you guys do it?

CHris -

I can ship yours with mine to mtc (so far eveyone else in within the axis). I swap brews w/ him now + then anyway.

mrb - normally Steve will set up the chatroom once a date is set and notify ya of the password to get in. Then we drink. 22 oz are fine - although 12's are typical.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
Excellent! I'm in then. And with this time frame, I'll have time to pull a few from the keg and bottle them and add enough sugar so they'll bottle condition and come with the right fizz.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
These all sourish ones? I should be tasting one today that I bottled a couple weeks ago but didn't go for anything other than whatever the wyeast bier de garde yeast will do. Heard it was Fantome so thought I'd give it a shot.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
They don't have to be sourish but a lot of us like to play with bugs, so probably quite a few will be. The one I am thinking of shipping is not sour or brett-ized.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
I have to drop out. I brought what was left of this batch along to a party, and while enough was left over, it was the portion in the clear Tap-A-Draft container, and the time out cooling on the patio left it light-struck and not very tasty.

Next time. I've still got a big bunch of Al's Saison bugs in the fridge for further brewing fun.

I would like to get in this if I still can. I have several Saisons that either are ready or will be by January.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
Sounds like that would be 8 beers. I think we could work with that and probably cap it there.

So it would be:

Seanywonton

Scott J

mtc

ErikH

CDH maybe

arutha maybe

AlB

mrb

I think usually with a group that size, the beers are split up and not sent to everyone, so you end up sending and receiving about 4-5 beers. If a few people don't confirm and we end up at 6, then I would say all people could taste all beers.

Does that sound OK for everybody?

Please confirm by sending me your mailing information to my email address. We could shoot for a tasting date any time in January. Please include in what weekday nights you could do the tasting on, and any dates that you absolutely could not do in the email.

Sean,

I'm still in. Where can one find your email address? Mine is michaeltclifford at yahoo dot com. I'm assuming this is still to take place in the beginning of the new year.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
My info is off to you now.

Also, if this stays large enough to split to two groups . . . would there be any interest in some of the folks directly in and close to NYC proper instead meeting up in person?

I can do any week day night as far as I know, although NYC would be tough for me.

Nice going Sean, let me know if you need any help. A resource page with addresses is a great thing to have for these. I have a pretty big collection of addresses, I could get one of those up for you when you're ready if you like.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
No worries CDH, sorry to hear it.

Steve, I'm sure I may need some help later with setting up the chat, but I can collect all contacts and arrange the swap part.

So far we have 5 people confirmed, including myself.

Hey Sean...I realize I'm getting in a bit late here, but it looked like you might have had a dropout. If you have space for me, I would be down for this swap. Cheers...Augie

Re: Another Saison Swap?
The Swap is planned for some time in January, I'm thinking the 2nd week most likely.

So far I have only 5 confirmed:

Me

ErikH

ScottJ

AlB

mtc

If that's it, and if everybody is cool with it, we can invite OldTree and Bpotts in to make 7 swappers.

For the people who are already in on this, are you cool with 7? It is a little more shipping $$$ and 6 beers to send out.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
I can be in but can't do those dates. Of course I have no problem with everyeone else doing that date and I just get to give feed back via email or something. I'll be in Europe the second and third week of January.

Let me know, I am fine either way, there will be more swaps at some point. :)

Re: Another Saison Swap?
Arutha,

I can speak from experience that you want to be around for the actual tasting. I had to miss the tasting part of the last saison swap due to unfortunate circumstances, and that's really the best part. If you are cool with it, I'd ask for you to sit this one out and go for the next one.

Hey OldTree and BPotts,

If you want to do the swap, why don't you send me your info:

Mailing address and dates of availability for a weeknight swap in January.

seanywonton at gmail dot com

After I get you guys in, I'll send out a group email for all involved.

Re: Another Saison Swap?
I may be interested in this if you all want to add another party. I have a dark saison with a touch of peat-smoked malt fermented with Fantome dregs. If nothing else, it is an interesting spin on the style. I'll email Sean with my questions.
