Al - the package arrived just fine. Nothing seemed to be frozen.

I can't wait to brew with it - probably around the end of the month!

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
Got mine yesterday too Al! Seemed to be in great condition with very professional packaging. Thank you to the bugfarm master! If we were to make a starter, what size would you recommend for a 1060 gravity beer? Pint, liter? Thinking of maybe using this in a flanders red after the holidaze...

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
I would go for 2L if you can muster it. But for a flanders red some extra esters from underpitching would be OK. Aerate the brew well.

In a few months the brew will be slimy, snotty, or "sick" -not to worry, this will go away.

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
Al,

Bugs arrived fine and look delicious! Is the bug list on the first page complete? My plan is to make a begian pale/saison, start with wyeast Belgian Ardennes and pitch the bugs in the secondary. Will the Bugs keep going at basement temps? Planning on putting some oak in with it - do you think they'll end up innoculated with enough interesting things to share with friends?

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
Got my tube today Al, thanks again!

It's going to be a 5 gallon lambic style with a 1.050 OG so I think I'll just pitch it right in.

<<Is the bug list on the first page complete? >>

Yes

<<Will the Bugs keep going at basement temps?>>

Definately

<<do you think they'll end up innoculated with enough interesting things to share with friends? >>

Most likely, but not necessarily all inclusive.

Hey Al,

I've been offline over the weekend but will take the dregs if there are any left. If not, I'll keep my fingers crossed to get in on the next batch. Thanks!

Got mine last week. Doing a starter batch soon, then pitching that into a barrel of something or other. Thinking of doing a solera with a friend of mine.

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
Got mine last week too. Thanks a lot Al!

I am planning a Consecration-esque beer with this. Anyone have any thoughts if I should primary ferment with the bugs, or do a clean primary and pitch the begs secondary?

Last of the batch
To be sent out this week:

DBEAR and EXPLOSIVEBEER will get a bit more than dregs since Heliophile flew the koop and Babalu went toodle-loo.

(they will get the dregs if they report in)

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
Hey Al,

I've been watching this and have some serious yeast envy! If you have any unclaimed dregs, they would find a lovely west-coast home with me. Otherwise, I can wait until next time.

Thanks for advancing the plight of sour beer heads everywhere!

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
Gonna make a big starter with this and pitch some to a pretty bland brown saison I have going that I re-fermented with Grape Juice. Other batch is going to go to the same recipe I brewed with last year's batch, a pale sour with extra Fantome Brett.

Anyone used grape must/skins in conjunction with juice in a Beer to good effect?

Re: a new BugFarm is upon us........
Hey RYAN! Not to steal the thread, but check out Russian River's website. If you search their barrel aged bottled beer log there is info on there about how they tackled the Consecration (ie primary ferment with neutral yeast vs. critters, aging, etc.). Would probably be a good place to start. Just brewed a lambic and pitched the dregs of a Consecration I had been saving for quite some time.
