Source for Brett. Anomalous?
Hey everyone, first I just wanted to say that I have gleaned a ton of information from you guys in respect to Brett brewing, and I am actually mashing my first Brett beer right now. I am using a culture from the Avery 15 Anniversary Ale that I started up a little over a week and a half ago (and it smells heavenly!). But as I get more into Brett, I am trying to do a few split batches to figure out my personal favorite strains. I have found various places to get Brett L, B and C, but Wyeast as I am sure you are aware discontinue Brett A. So I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get my hands on a culture of it and let the experimenting begin. Again, thanks to everyone for the help so far, I can't wait to make my contributions the knowledge pool in return!

Re: Source for Brett. Anomalous?
WY will be putting out B. clausenii as a VSS next. It might be the same strain as anomulus (for brewing purposes it basically is).

Love WY brett C. It is subtle, earthy, tropically fruity, and mild. A great yeast to use as a primary fermenter or to finish up a saison or other belgian style ale. Glad to hear they are releasing that one again. Probably because I bought like 6 packs of it last time. LOL!

Re: Source for Brett. Anomalous?
Al, how different is the Brett. a you sent me a few months ago to the Wyeast Brett c.? I made an all brett c and Amarillo pale last year and wanted to do it again with the Brett. a and Nelson Sauvin hops.

Super glad to hear that Brett C will be back again this year, it is so great as a 100% brett ferment!

Re: Source for Brett. Anomalous?
I do not have the WY clausennii, so I can't say. I didn't know WY had put out clausenii before. However, I wouldn't be surprised if any differences would be subtle if any.

JeffB, You'll love brett and Nelson Sauvin together. I found that it did work best with some amarillo too though. NS plays wonderfully with a little amarillo and some brett.

Re: Source for Brett. Anomalous?
Jeff, I hope this years batch turns out even 1/2 as good as the one you made last year, which was excellent. I still have nearly a pound of NS in the freezer - perhaps I'll do something along these lines too. : )

Re: Source for Brett. Anomalous?
Is there any reason one would wait for the Wyeast VSS when I think White Labs releases Brett C year round as WLP645?

Re: Source for Brett. Anomalous?
Others can probably address this better than I, but I've seen speculation around that they aren't the same strain. I've only gotten to use the WLP version, so I don't have firsthand comparison info though. Anyone else?

I've heard the same thing. But like you, have only used the WLP version.

Re: Source for Brett. Anomalous?
I found an older thread on this site discussing the 645 strain, and it seems to support what you guys are saying. It appears it is a blend of several strains, which is good to know. I have a beer planned that I wanted to do all Brett C with in the next few weeks. Does anyone know when the Wyeast strain is slotted to be released? Is it the next one, like March/April?
