Welcome to the homeBBBrew board!
Like the BBB, the homeBBBrew board is not a club, just a place to talk about making beer. Is there a swap you would like to
see happen? If we can find a few others who have something similar then lets do it!

apple juice starter
One of my friends emailed vinnie at Russian river about using some dregs from a bottle of isabelle proximus. Vinnie suggested a starter with water and Apple juice. That was a new one on me. Is the Apple juice because of acidity? |

Re: apple juice starter
Mistpe on my part, I meant wort not water...email from Vinnie:
I’m sure the bugs are still good, you could grow them up in a mix of apple juice (pasteurized but unfiltered) and wort- 4 parts low gravity low or no hopped wort to 1 part apple juice. |

Re: apple juice starter
Folks have brought this up before on the board. The one instance I remember apple juice being mentioned as specifically beneficial was in growing up a starter of malo-lactic bacteria. In that case the apple juice has enough malic acid for the bacteria to chew through for awhile. |

Re: apple juice starter
White Labs has a recipe for a starter for malo-lactic bacteria that consists of apple juice, water and nutrient. |
